Known to the Chinese as Tiantan, the Temple of Heaven once served as a place of solemn prayer for good harvests and atonement for sins. The temples on the site are circular and their bases are square, owing to an ancient belief that heaven is round and the earth is square. It was yet another beautiful place to wander and marvel.

Surrounding one of the altars is the legendary Echo Wall. Sixty-five meters in diameter, this round (or elliptical, perhaps) wall allows soft speech to carry clear over to the other end. Cheris and Rob carried on a normal conversation while barely in sight of one another. Rob forgot to take a picture of this curiosity, though, so you won't see one here. Sorry.
