...and this was the view from our window when morning rolled around. Strangely enough, this great double room in a very great location cost just a little more than it did to set up both of us with bunks in the youth hostels in Dazaifu and Nagasaki.

We got up just after dawn to take a nice swim in the Sea of Japan. Some very hyperactive and athletic fish were jumping all around us (up to six inches out of the water, not bad for a four-inch fish!); it was a wonderful and amusing experience. After breakfast, Rob shuffled back to the beach to capture the cove:

Next stop: Karatsu-jo, a Japanese-style castle. This is merely a modern reconstruction, but it sure does look nice, inside and out. The view of Karatsu from the top ain't bad either.

We visited the Karatsu Shinto Shrine on our way into town from the castle (left). After that we saw a really cool museum housing the huge wood-carved non-mechanical floats used in Karatsu's autumn festival, but photographs weren't allowed there.

And all too soon, it was about time to go home again. We caught the light rail back into Fukuoka, where we wandered bug-eyed around through the nightlife district for a while before crashing at a hotel. We took the early boat back to Korea the next morning... another trip was done, and it was high time to begin planning the next one.
